I was white, relatively middle class, and had good SAT scores. If you are a minority student and get in, for any reason (such as your own merit), you will likely be thought of by many students as getting in and having a free ride simply because of your minority status. Many will likely think you are not as good as they are automatically because of this horrible misconception. It's sick.

I participated in as many different activities as IAug 30 2003Communications
I participated in as many different activities as I could in high school. I was also valedictorian of my class, and I'm sure that helped a little with my acceptance. I recommend that you do community service projects (admissions people eat that up) and take the ACT/SAT as many times as you can.
ACT: 24 Female
There is something very unique about admission at MiamiAug 15 2003Accounting
There is something very unique about admission at Miami University. I would say the admission staff spends 50% more time on admission applications than other schools. Miami is extremely competetive and getting more so every day but unlike other universities miami will SERIOUSLY consider your special qualities and interests. For example if you do not have amazing test scores or an awesome GPA you still have a change to get into Miami if your essay blows them away. Things like that actually happen in admissions here, where they never would at other universities of Miami's caliber. Just a cool fact i thought i would share.

Do lots of volunteer and extracurricular activities. Be sure to take the ACT or SAT more than once!
